I had recently been listening to the Birthing Instincts podcast where Bliss was interviewing this incredible woman, Lara Janson. I found her powerful story so incredibly multi-dimensionally interesting. She reminded me of myself nearly 25 years ago…so educated and “armed” if you will with everything she needed to know to advocate for herself and her desire for a physiological “natural” birth; and yet, circumstances would have it that she would come into so many obstacles where at every turn she continued to empower herself and find solutions to stay on her path for her desired outcome.
Tragically, she was thwarted with a fully joyful victorious moment of her vaginal breech birth with what is UNDENIABLY described as Obstetrical Violence.
Fortuitously, Lara’s very specific education led her down a path of finding a route for justice. We don’t cover this portion on the first interview I have done with Lara, but she and I are scheduled to sit down and finish our talk later this month (July of 2025) and that will be available in August of 2025.
Obstetrical violence, coercion and more are incredibly prevalent in the birthing rooms of hospitals. You may have experienced this yourself. Interestingly, I recently found a video of myself relaying the story of my first birth nearly 25 years ago when I became a mother. It had some very strange and traumatic turns, which I look forward to sharing with all of you upcoming. These lived experiences need to be shared!
